This board's still hangin' in there, huh?

I hung out here for a while in 2004. Surprised to see it's still here. Of course, I still watch LiT now and then.

My favorite of the posts I made: LiT Action Figures

I don't think they're speaking French. I think the English subtitles are confused. (I assume that's where you're getting this idea.) I've never been able to make out what the Japanese man says, but in reply, Bob says, " We...we saw the palace." (I'm paraphrasing, except for the "we...we" part.) Refe...

It's wonderful that this movie makes you feel good.

It's worrisome that you're counting the number of times you've seen it.

Tokyo Timeline

Found this on IMDB. I haven't checked it for accuracy: If it's of any interest I've reproduced below my attempt to fix times/days to the events of the film, + various quotes etc. It's in a pretty abbreviated form so apologies if it's hard to make sense of. There are days of the week mentioned in th...

I'm not sure what to make of "capsized synonymous marijuana," though the phrase "conspiracy theory" comes to mind. I know Luigi's not a native English speaker, so I tried to wade through the language as it is. In the party scene, you do hear Bob ask, "What kind of weed is that?" But here's another t...

The DVD includes an "Anatomy of a Scene" featurette that was developed for the Sundance Channel. It discusses the big dinner scene.

As Seen on TV!!!!

You've seen them for Star Wars, for Lord of the Rings, and for so many other movies. Yes, we're talking about Lost in Translation Action Figures! CHARLOTTE Stares out windows and wanders through the city. Takes dumb pictures of her feet and writes mean stuff. Includes a copy of the A Soul's Search C...

The DVD includes a music video. Like so many "movie-related" music videos, it has nothing to do with the movie...except that the musician looks at a print of the painting, and as he plays Scarlett appears out of thin air. (She's dressed in a a sort of period costume, but it's not the costume of a 17...

I think showing those women does two things:

1) Shows that this movie really was made "on the fly."

2) Adds a realism that a bigger-budget, more "posed" film wouldn't show.

Naughty word filter?

I notice that when I include words like "associate" and "assume" (that's a-s-s-o-c-i-a-t-e and a-s-s-u-m-e) in a post, they come out looking strange. If there's a naughty-words filter, I think it's wound too tight.

Kelly's boyfriend

Kelly asks John if her (presumed) boyfriend -- the hip-hop DJ in the knit cap -- "is too goofy."

So what do you think? Will this romance last? Where do you see Kelly and the DJ in the future?

Continuity

IMDB has a nice list of "continuity problems" under their "Goofs" link, though I don't agree with all of them. Here are my favorites: When Bob puts Charlotte to bed, her bare midriff shows. After the view changes to a close up and then back to the wider shot, her midriff is covered The back cover of...
