Yeah, it came out Jan. 3rd. It was released by Focus Features, the same company that put LiT. It's a pretty bare-bones disc by way of extras- some funny Bill moments, a short behind the scenes, something on the soundtrack... What I want to know is, when will Bill participate on a commentary track?! ...

I think it works well, almost like an intermission. I can't remember exactly where it fits into the movie, but it gave a little breather from all the introverted character shots. It also gave a little color contrast to all the oranges and browns of Park Hyatt. It feels like it gives Bob a little com...

Ouch! Even "We Are Awake Lost in Translation" or "Lost in Translation Fan Site" doesn't pull us up early!
I know google checks cross-links from other sites, but do you know if they track activity from other message boards? Maybe if we had a link banner we could attach in other forum sigs...

My ex-girlfriend (of 3.5 years) and I broke up on the 1st of June and while it hasn't been messy, angry, or extremely painful, it's left me going through an up/down emotional state. The best thing I did that first week when I was feeling really alone was write a friend of mine an 8 page letter. Just...

I bought Armed Forces because I had to memorize a certain song for Halloween karaoke (guess who I went as  ). That's the only album of his I own and absolutely love it.

What else would you recommend for beginners? I'm cool with suggestions that aren't as political or loud

Yeah, I really liked it. If you liked past Anderson movies, it's a safe bet that you'll like this one. It is like the others only Bill is front and center for two hours (which makes it like, 4 times better) Wes Anderson movies are great. I don't know if I'd call them genius or hilarious or whatever,...

The Life Aquatic DVD

The DVD just came out and I wanted to warn everybody: Usually when films are released and there is a special Criterion Collection version, the CC version is labeled as such and is more expensive than the standard one. I bought what I thought was the special version and got home to find that BOTH ver...

I'm curious if the forum appearance options are default choices from phpBB or if you have more say over the general forum look? (besides the banner pic)

Confusion about television show invite

Bob was invited to Tanabe Mori's show, but the one he filmed was Matthew's Best Hit TV. I couldn't find anything on Tanabe Mori, but Matthew's Best is a real show. Is this a continuity issue or is there a plot explanation? Here's a link to Matthew's Best Hit TV website if anyone's interested http://...

Indeed, while "Lost in Translation" opened all over the world last fall, it opened in image-conscious Tokyo only last weekend. Some sources say this is deliberate. Japanese decorum on culturally sensitive matters precludes angry protest or high-volume misgivings about images that might be considered...

It's been mentioned several times before in this forum that the movie isn't about "getting" Japan or Japanese culture; it's about the relationship between Bob and Charlotte. And I don't think they necessarily miss America. The conflicts they're feeling with their spouses would be felt anywhere in th...

I've read several critics complain that the problem with movie soundtracks is that they usually need to rely on the film's power to stand up; that it's a bad thing that we associate the music with moments from the film. I too listen to the soundtrack to purposely evoke feelings from the movie, so it...
