Re: New LIT book: Lost in Translation (BFI Film Classics)

Yes, thanks for the heads up. Would never have known about this book without this forum.

I recently bought and read the book and echo Bob's assessment. An interesting read with some unique insights and a good addition to a LiT fan's collection.

Re: Happy 20th Anniversary LIT!!

A bit late here, but happy 20 years. Amazing that it's been this long and that we still have this place to come back to (Thanks, Bob!). I'll admit that after watching it probably over 100 times in the first decade, I have only rarely watched it in the second. Part of that was burnout, understandably...

Re: Shawn Mendes music video tribute to LIT!!! Lost In Japan

Wow, nice find. They took a lot of care to make the shots as close as possible including using what look like the original locations (Park Hyatt, the Karaoke place).

Re: Happy 15th Anniversary LIT!

Well I'm late to the party, so I'll celebrate the Norwegian or French releases I guess  I can't believe it's been 15 years. Anyway, I would like to thank you as well Bob for keeping this forum running for so long. It's a comfort to know it's here waiting, like an old friend and into the camera...

Re: "Suntory Time" scene in Japanese?

I couldn't find much either, but I did find this forum post which linked to a Japanese site claiming it had the text. The site is no longer up, but it's on archive.org: Forum post: https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/lost-in-translation.65052/ Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20170118135731/w...

Monsters

Anyone else watched this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1470827/ It's billed as a sci-fi/horror type movie - just look at the poster - and I went in expecting that but got something completely different. Sort of like how LiT was branded as a comedy. It is set against a sci-fi backdrop (aliens on earth...

Welcome. Glad you found us (better late than never). It's a bit quiet around here lately but there's always room for more. I've also been extremely grateful for this venue to discuss the movie with others who feel as passionate.

I've been on a real kick lately, watching at least some of it most nights. It's been almost 10 years and I've probably watched it hundreds of times by now, but somehow it always seems to fit my mood. If I can't sleep and want to clear my head, or if I just want to relax with a drink and enjoy the sc...

The Bling Ring

Sofia's new movie The Bling Ring comes out in June:

Doesn't really seem like something I'd be interested in, but who knows.

I almost always watch it in the dark with headphones on and the volume somewhat high. The ambient noise and music are both great in this movie and I feel more immersed. And I agree that it's more of an emotional event - not a just a simple movie viewing. I usually have to be in that state of tired r...

George Clooney and Natalie Portman? Prior to Up in the Air I would never have considered Clooney, but that was actually a similar role which I rather liked. I now think he could have fit into the role of Bob very well. Charlotte is harder for me...I can't really think of another actress who can do ...

They've expanded it even further - check it out if it wasn't already playing in your city: http://www.focusfeatures.com/somewhere/theatres The theater was quite full when I saw it, maybe 100 people. I saw it with my fiancee who said of the opening scenes, "They wore on so long I couldn't stand it, b...

There's now a bit wider release with new theaters listed on the official site. I saw it this afternoon. Honestly I wasn't impressed. I get where she was going with the film but it missed the mark in my opinion. On the other hand it wasn't until my second viewing of LIT, alone and at home, that it re...

I just now realized this is only a limited release in the US, and not in my city.

Has anyone heard any information about a wider release? The official website doesn't mention anything.

I've played it twice now and there's no visible scratching, even on the small print and pictures on side B. My turntable is low quality and very old, but it does have a newer needle.

I imagine that with repeated playings it would begin to show damage just like any record.
