I started reading the bit where you quoted me (I didn't notice that it was me), and I was amazed how much I agreed with that guy. Then I realized the guy was me, LOL.
So long since I've been back here - I love getting the occasional notification from this site.
Must watch LiT again soon.

My knee-jerk reaction when I just read that quote of mine (for the first time in 3 years) was to agree with you and say that that Ian Cooper guy is crazy. Having written that response so long ago I felt somewhat removed from it. But when I thought about it a bit more, what that Ian Cooper guy said m...

When should we watch LiT as an anniversary viewing?
I tend to make a point of watching my favourite movies at least once a year on their 'anniversary'. For example, I watch Groundhog Day religiously on February 2nd; I watch The Wicker Man on May 1st; I watch Halloween on the week of Halloween; I watch A Christmas Story at Christmas. But I'm having tr...

LOL I missed that one. I guess touching someone's foot has a whole lot of implications I never even guessed at. Hey, I mean technically they DID 'sleep' together and if bob's hand represents his penis and Charlotte's foot represents her vagina, they could be said to have boinked like bunnies. Seriou...

I just got a Duo-HD player for Christmas so of course I'm thinking of getting LiT in HD-DVD. So those who have bought it, can you tell me if the image is a lot better than it is in standard definition? Often I've found that high definition transfers have to be done with some care in order to really ...

I found the ending cathartic too, but I guess my point was that it wasn't cathartic in the traditional sense - i.e. the guy doesn't get the girl and the villain isn't blasted out of the 50th floor of an office building to die screaming. Hehe, now that would have been funny if they'd ended it like Di...

I agree. The virulence of the negative reactions actually reminds me of another movie - Gus van Sant's 'Elephant'. This was another movie which challenged its audience to think a little differently about what films should be doing, in that it gave no comforting spoonfeeding of emotions and, just lik...

I think it says something interesting about old Oscar when he snubs LiT in favour of LotR:RotK. It's like, wow! How did they get that so wrong? Any of the other films nominated that year would have been a better choice. The Academy didn't get it "wrong" -- not from its point of view. LotR: RotK was...

Hmmm. Here's the thing about Return of the King - personally I don't reckon it was that good of a movie - I mean at all. Sure, it was very good in the effects department, but as far as script, directing and acting are concerned it's very mediocre. I think LiT should have at least won Coppola Best Di...

Yeah. I think this will become one of those movies like 'It's a Wonderful Life' or 'The Night of the Hunter' that is ignored or disliked upon theatrical release, but regarded as a classic in years to come. Just as a matter of interest, what movie won the Oscar for best movie the year that LiT was no...

I try to avoid reading other peoples' interpretations of this moment in the movie. I often spend quite a while musing on it and wondering to myself what it means to me - and that's why it's inevitably lost in translation - because it is subjective to every viewer and each viewing potentially gives i...

Just a bit of randomness here, but I was shocked and appalled one night the other week when I was playing the LiT soundtrack whilst I had some friends over and one of them called it "depressing" ! My wife says the whole movie is depressing. I guess I can understand that point of view, because it is...

Beery, I agree with you. However, different strokes for different folks... Well, 'different strokes for different folks' is only a good thing if everyone's different strokes are harmless. When people view nudity as 'morally wrong' or 'needing justification', i.e. when people make an a priori assump...
