It's sort of triumphant to me. It's like the two of them cleared a hurdle.

In the early eighties, I had to fly to Frankfurt from Atlanta. I got to the airport only to find that my Delta flight had been cancelled. The Delta folks were very courteous and in less that 15 minutes they had gotten me on a KLM flight to Amsterdam (and then onto a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt). M...

JM, it seems that you are dead set on pushing your point here, and I must say that I am losing respect for you because of it. I don't give two tenths of a rip what Bill Murray said. If you feel that what he says is gospel, then good for you. It frees you from having to think. As for me, I will think...

"Local Hero"

I'm sure at least some of you have seen this excellent little movie. It is directed by Bill Forsyth, who also did "Gregory's Girl." Peter Riegert (who also starred in "Animal House") and Burt Lancaster are fantastic, but the real stars are the occupants of the Scotch village where most of the action...

I saw the nods, but they mean nothing to me. Why would you nod when you are alone in an elevator? What I see when I view this scene is Charlotte giving Bob the green light. She does it at least twice. The eyes, the body language, the wry smile...she's saying, "Come on." She's playing Bob like a fidd...

I have been in love without being in a relationship with a woman. I'm talking about an openly avowed relationship. I guess what I'm saying is that I have loved from afar, as it were.

Okay, I finally saw "Match Point" yesterday. It is still playing at a theater in my neighborhood. Mostly I was disappointed. When I had finished watching it, I thought of "Crimes and Misdemeanors" and how both movies dealt with getting rid of an edgy, temperamental woman. What a horrible topic! "Cri...

Yes, it serves to throw a question mark in there. The two of them are hugging and, we assume, realizing that this is the end, until Bob does his whisper, which makes us pause a second and wonder what it is all about. Is it really the end? We'll never know, and each of us has our own theory as to wha...

Many years ago, on its "Ummagumma" album, Pink Floyd did an instrumental (written by Richard Wright, the band's keyboardist) called "Sisyphus." It's pretty good at bringing out the grueling nature of the character's fate.

It never mattered to me. I drew my own conclusions about what happened at the end and how they felt about each other and the whisper would not have changed the way I felt about the movie as a whole. To me, it's just a mildly interesting tidbit.

Anyone remember Echo and the Bunnymen? If so, I know you will recall "The Cutter." What a great tune! Okay, here's the original post: Don't read this if you haven't seen the film. Yes...I will go so far as to say that the ending of "Lost in Translation", is as powerful as the ending of "Casablanca." I have just watched this film 8 straight nights in a row after midnight. Which I have never done befo...

Josh, your friend might be right about the directions of the cars, but the shots at the end of the movie are intended to illustrate Bob's leaving Tokyo. I would assume that the camera crew took any number of ambient shots around the city just to have plenty of stock for just such a scene as the endi...

A nice thread from imdb.com

Comparing the ending of "Casablanca" with that of "LIT" is indeed a compliment.

Are you drawn to the woman, the drama, or the pain? Remember the line in "Eternal Sunshine," early in the movie when Joel and Clem were sitting inside in Montauk- this was before they knew each other- and Joel said to himself, "I fall in love with any woman who pays attention to me?"
