If you can't see Steve in the Bill Murray role I fear you're falling into the same sort of trap as all those people who assumed, because Bill was in it, that LIT was supposed to be a comedy. well, the trailer was very misleading too... :D I could see Steve playing the role, but i just think Bill's ...

: As for Charlotte, I can't even begin to list any other possibilities. When I watch Scarlett in LiT, I often feel as it it's actually her I'm watching as opposed to Charlotte (shallow on my part, i know). that's not shallow, that's just good acting by Scarlett!! Both Bill and Scarlett's performanc...

Same actors ..same place.. I wouldnt have wanted it any other way. i think we all agree that it was perfect the way it is, and that we wouldn't have wanted it any other way. But I'm just asking if you think that there are alternative settings/actors that would make it work, that would make LiT good...

Suggestions from the IMDB board thread: Alternatives for Charlotte's part include: Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Natalie Portman, Anna Paquin, Katie Holmes, Mary-Louise Parker, Samantha Morton, Penelope Cruz, Keira Knightley, and Charlize Theron. Alternatives for Bob's part include (assuming the mov...

Alternative Setting/Actors

In the "Bob's Phone" thread, an interesting debate started, and i thought it was good enough to have its own thread. Do you think that LiT would work in other places (Berlin and Mexico City were mentioned in "bob's phone" thread)? What about actors? Would there be another suitable actor for Bob's ch...

I simply said it could have taken place in those cities. I made no argument about how effective the isolation would have been in either of those places versus Tokyo. That wasn't the point I was making, and the comparative isolation that an English-speaking person might feel in one foreign city vers...

It could easily have taken place in Berlin or Mexico City. i can't say that i agree...japan worked so well in the movie because it creates the greatest sense of alienation. One of the things that made Bob and Charlotte feel so alienated was the "hi-tech" society (think about Bob's startled reaction...

i haven't seen it...at least around here, though, it doesn't seem to be that popular (it wasn't even sold out when it first opened) but maybe that's because there are other movies with more hype like Meet the Fockers...the local newspapers (SF Chronicle) says it is "almost great"...i guess we'll hav...

i dunno if i could deal with that infamous LA smog though...i like it here in the bay area, even if everything is so expensive (theres no exageration: everyone talks about the price of housing here, but its more than that. EVERYTHING is soo expensive)

Re: " getting Lit "

I commented on this in an earlier post ...and several people here have hit on it too.. I think it was in large part due to bad promotion ...It WAS billed as " the comedy of the year " etc etc..and those in cohoots with Focus didnt seem ready for the enthusiasm for LIT out of the festival market..so...

I think were expecting another outrageous slapstick comedy from Bill Murray. actually, i was expecting a comedy (maybe a typical hollywood romantic comedy) too, judging by the previews. it's an interesting question. In my experiences ppl either hate it or love it too, theres no middle ground. i rea...

I don't know for sure, but judging by the somewhat unresolved ending, that's probably the feeling she was going for. If not, she left me with a permanent, unintentional punch in the stomach. To me, the ending was part of the overall message of the movie, that (quoting from the DVD box, hehe)...

I think Scarlett was soo much more beautyful in LiT than now with those Kalvin commercialls. Now she just looks very avarage instead of very original like in LiT hmm..i thought she looked stunning (i.e. more than average...) in that KC ad for the perfume. That doesn't mean she didn't look good in L...

When I first heard anyone mention the topic of racism in LiT, i honestly didn't have any idea what they were talking about. some claim that the film mocks the Japanese. For example, when Charlotte and Bob are talking at night in the room, Charlotte asks Bob "Why do they switch the L's and the R's h...
