I just read back a bit here and realized that the old thread called "Close my eyes..." addresses similar issues to the ones I was wondering about here. Probably tons of stuff has been said and re-said on this site already...so if anyone does have any new insights, that would be cool. I enjoyed readi...

LiT soundtrack in real life

In the six months or so since seeing LiT for the first time (yes, I'm a late bloomer in that sense), I've also been listening to the soundtrack on a fairly regular basis. As I think most folks here would agree, I think it's a beautiful soundtrack top to bottom, and it serves as a perfectly integrate...

This thread is old, and perhaps people have already noticed this little slip in filming... but it seems to me that the first time we see the New York Bar, we hear the piano playing before the pianist actually gets his hands to the keyboard. (The song is the one that begins "I'm in your aaaarms..." I...

And also, about the "prison break" scene, I think Bob starts the conversation with Charlotte by immediately trying to connect with her in the same type of humorous but meaningful way: "Do you always sit in the same spot? >>I like it here; if I fall, someone will notice." (That's a paraphrase) Of cou...

I would be up for that as well...though I think a double feature of LiT and Ghost World might result in emotional overload. Or, in the terms of this forum, two punches in the stomach!

Still...sounds good to me...

I saw Ghost World for the first time about a month ago and have watched it three times since then. Basically, I'm being haunted by it. As with Lost in Translation, I feel as if I've been carrying the sentiment of this film around with me during the day. I even whistle the piano theme by David Kitay ...

I think there's a sort of fortuitous ambiguity in the film--one that allows us to feel both happy and sad and maybe even see those two seemingly opposed emotions as intricately interwoven with one another. Maybe happiness and sadness are two parts to one greater...thing?? I don't know. But, I think ...

" UNLESS - I suppose it could have been a subtle was of saying that despite Bob's supposed wisdom to Charlotte - he was really kididng himself too. To some extent, we all talk a better game than we actually play. He believes that the kids are wondeful; and yet his actions aren't quite consistent wi...

That moment in Kyoto when Charlotte watches the ceremonial wedding procession is a very strong intertextual reference to Akira Kurosawa's film "Dreams" from the early 1990s. Specifically, this moment references the first of the eight episodes in "Dreams" in which the young Kurosawa stand-in characte...

I'm certainly with everyone here who's said that to really try to isolate a favorite moment would probably result in rattling off a list of every scene in the film... That said, I am pretty much always moved to at least one tear during the karaoke scene when Charlotte sheepishly smiles as Bob turns ...

I agree that Charlotte recognizes Bob as a film celebrity with that early line "So what are you doing here," as was previously posted. I think the fact that Charlotte has such an easy manner about her when she asks this--and Bob, in turn, responds in a similarly casual yet sincere fashion--foreshado...
