I don't think any of us are criticizing the way the film was shot.

In fact, I dare say it'd be near impossible to do a better job in a 27 days.

We're just pointing out little discontinuities one tends to notice after viewing an excessive number of times.

Literature and film doesn't neccesarily have a "point", that is a moral "lesson" like in fairy tales. I think it's important to ask questions about films, but perhaps the a better question than "what was said?" would be why did Sofia Coppola decide to leave the whisper ambiguous? I believe the inaud...

I think on the DVD you can see the deleted scenes. This is the closest we'll ever get to seeing the "director's cut" I believe.

You guys should check out Audrey Heburn films if you haven't already seen them. Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany's were a couple that paticularly stuck with me. Or how about Casablanca with Ingrid Bergman? Also, I feel most Godard films, especially Pierrot Le Fou are similar to LIT in many way...

One thing I noticed was in the very beginning when Bob is just waking up to find himself in Toyoko, there is a very brief (1-2 sec) shot where the boom mike can be seen on the upper right of the screen.

Now that moment will be ruined forever. Mwahahaaaa. :D

Is Saturday, May 14th, 10pm EST good for everybody? (roughly 3 weeks time from the date this post was made)

Nothing's finalized until people reply to this thread saying whether or not it's a good time for them.

BTW that's 9pm Central, and 7pm West Coast time.

We have 6 interested people as of now.

My advice is to only watch it when you are completely sure it's the film you're in the mood for.

Otherwise over-watching could cheapen the experience.

Of course, if anyone is so in love as to join a msg board deticated to the film, it's unlikely you'll tire of LIT anytime soon.

For some reason Japanese Story didn't resonate with me at all. I had heard good things about it, and sincerely was enjoying it up until the "inccident" occurs. Afterwards the plot and the characters become too passive IMO. I just wish the director spent more time on the relationship aspect than the ...

If you thought LIT was racist, you missed the point of the film. Although the film presents a one-sided account of Japan, it is meant to be that way. That's why it's called LOST in Translation, it doesn't claim to make any statements about Japan or it's culture, it simply presents us with a story to...

Films like LIT? Are there any?

Although there might not be any films in the same league as LIT, are there any that gave you a similar emotional response at least? Here are a couple you guys might want to check out: Ghost World (same sort of "lost" characters, with a bittersweet narrative) La Dolce Vita (Fellini creates a very int...

I think I remember reading that the wig was Coppola's choice, the femininity of Charlotte expressed through the wig and underwear as one of the "themes" if you can call it that. Perhaps motif would be the better word.

It seems I'm doomed to never love the women I'm with, and always love the women I can never have. I know that's a horrible thing to say, especially for those who I've been in relationships with, but for some reason when I fall in love I create this invisible boundary for neither of us to cross. It's...

Ah, good point about the "R's and their L's" line. I always wondered what that was in reference to. For some reason, I'll go months without seeing LIT, then I might have to see it several times in a week when I'm feeling lonely or perhaps longing for something emotional and beautiful as Silk so eloq...
