Tommib, yes...I agree. That's when Charlotte is sitting on the ledge in her hotel room looking out over the greatness of the Tokyo skyline. It's sad, and lonely and haunting indeed.

cosettery_kite, hey! good to hear from you. Good luck! Hope it works out for you. I'm going to watch it tonight after midnight. I'm staying up really late tonight because I'm on holidays tomorrow and I'm flying out to British Columbia tomorrow which is a 3 hour time difference. So, I'm trying to bea...

Yes, I just arrived at work from subway, and was listening to the soundtrack on iPod. I love the way the songs bring back vivid memories of the film. If I had never seen this movie, I doubt I would listen to half the stuff on this CD. But in the context of the movie, the music is brilliant and very ...

mothling, exactly me too. I like to keep it rolling until Sofia's friend at the end waves goodbye. The soundtrack is just so awesome. I just got an iPod and will now have the soundtrack wherever I go. I agree. This movie has touched a nerve in me so deep as no other movie could ever do. It's one of ...

that first/second viewing effect is interesting. although I really liked it on first viewing, cried at the goodbye scene, it wasn't until the second time I saw it that I really loved it, and it was much richer, and more acute. Maybe because in the first viewing we are still figuring out what ...

One weird theory that I have is that the beginning of the movie, when Bob arrives and Girls is playing in the background, he is simply returning a second time, for some unknown reason, and the Suntory ad he sees on the billboard is actually one of the photos taken during the second half of the movi...

Will Charlotte and John’s marriage last?

I always wondered why Charlotte married John. They don’t seem like a very good match to me. John doesn’t seem to be Charlotte’s intellectual equal by any means. Signs in the movie that the marriage is troubled: 1)When they meet Kelly, and John puts his arm around Charlotte, she removes it. 2) When J...

The Fire Alarm and Hey You

Life is just like that. We have these experiences where fate, for lack of a better term, orchestrates a connection between souls. There seems to be a higher power at work in LiT to have Bob and Charlotte stay in touch. After the worst lunch ever, they end up back in the hotel that night not together...

Beery, I agree with you. However, different strokes for different folks, or one man's meat is another man's poison. The point is we all interpret what is and what isn't controversial individually based on our conditionings and education. Neither do I interpret the opening shot as controversial to ne...

What is Bob thinking about after he puts Charlotte to bed?

There is so much running through Bob's mind as he tucks in Charlotte, exits the room making sure it's safe and secure, and idles back to his hotel room. Much of the motivation of the characters are expressed through eye contact and facial expressions alone. The silent scenes are powerful in this mov...

Re: my opinion on this.

This is something I thought of as well. I know the film sort of tells you that anything can happen, because the ending is wide open to suggestions and for life to interfiere and change things in their future plans. All I think of is, they might or they might not keep in touch. Although I thought th...

Yes, this is truly one of the climactic scenes in the movie along with the bedroom scene when they fall asleep together which happened the night after the Karaoke scene. Their feelings for each other are evident during Karaoke. Charlotte is shy, but she continues to maintain eye contact with Bob. Sh...

Soul Mates

I just finished watching this film for the 5th time. I did cry at the ending because I didn't want it to end. It's not that I didn't just want the film to end, I realized that this movie touches a deeper vein in me. I don't want a love I find to end. And, I don't want my life to end. But the sad rea...

ForRelaxingTimes, that is very interesting. I have listened and listened to it, and can only hear the OKs at the end. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to put it through a sound processor to enhance the voice and see if more can be gleaned. Your 2 cents is worth 2 million cents here, as far as I'm c...

drabthehours, wow! I wonder if you are the Champion of LiT viewing. 10 times in one week is quite impressive. Seems I have a long way to go before I reach saturation. I'm in a cycle where I look forward to watching it at least once on the weekend after midnight. I'm filled with anticipation of knowi...

The first night out on the town, with the Karaoke scene have always been my favourite scenes. And during Karaoke I had always felt that the connection between Bob and Charlotte really took a ...
