I'll second that. What this community has in common is that we are very tuned-in to the subtleties of situations and actions. Don't beat yourself up. You were simply too close to this to see it with the perspective you needed. It was your own precisely-worded and brutally-honest descriptions of what...

Hi Silvermoon, I know this may sound ridiculous, but is there some chance that Charlotte never told Jughead that they weren't an item anymore? The more I read into your posts, the more it sounds like she has been stringing him along the whole time. And perhaps you, as well. I know that your immediat...

thanks for the vote of confidence I'm sorry, Silvermoon. I know I should be more supportive. But the truth is, I can't even bring myself to like this girl. While your enthusiasm is simply awe-inspiring, it is also blind, deaf, and dumb. This girl has shown you zero respect. I know she is beautiful,...

No, Congruous.

Irony would be Silvermoon breaking up with her then.
Just before the dinner.
Over the telephone.
From a bar.

I like the way you think, but that's way too extreme. Maybe you should just threaten this prick before you pop him one, or you might scare off Charlotte. Not Good. I like the way my method plays out, it's a little more dramatic. Which should impress Silver's gal, who obviously likes the drama. Just...

The next time you see this guy near your girlfriend, her room, or you, punch him. In the nose. Hard. The only "reaching out" to him you should be doing is with a closed fist, at this point. The only conversation you should have with him should be a warning to stay away from her. He's proven himself ...

I didn't realize that "The Illustrated History of Duran Duran" was such a large volume, JM. :P Actually, this photo is all about the subtleties. It was taken prior to John's wedding. Notice the absence of both a wedding band and straight-jacket (or was that just my wedding ?). Notice the folks on ea...

she thought we were breaking up the other day. she had met another anonymous friend the previous night, she had failed to tell me about it until i called her, and once again drinking was involved. i had tried to deal with it by going out with friends and getting hammered Ok, sorry, but it's time fo...

The "dependence" issue is a moot point because you will never really know how dependent she is on you. If you did find out, it might make you uncomfortable. All you have is your perception and what she tells you. When I read this, I couldn't help but think of that scene in "The Grudge", where Bill ...

Another vote for Groundhog Day! It's one of those deceptively simple films that can be read on many different levels. I think it lends itself well to discussion. I'm in !

What do the smiles mean at the end? If Bob and Charlotte were really sad about leaving each other, how come at the end they both leave smiling. Charlotte is smiling because she has gained a new sense of herself and her worth as a person. Bob is smiling because he wants that to be the image that Cha...

My selection would have to be "Language", by Suzanne Vega: If language were liquid, it would be rushing in Instead here we are, in a silence more eloquent than any word could ever be These words are too solid, they don't move fast enough To catch the blur in the brain that flies by and is gone And i...

Nice idea for a thread, Congruous ! Ok, in terms of sheer number of plays, this would be my list. These aren't the movies I consder to be the "best", just the ones I play over and over, and come back to repeatedly: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Fight Club Persona (but I liked "Through a Glass Dark...

I use FI as my main ringtone on a Motorola V551. The poly tone isn't the same sound as that in the film, but I'm happy just to have the same piece of music. It gets your attention, that's for sure. It's such a manic piece, it's very difficult to ignore.

Yeah, I thought Pi was great, as well. It is really more of a movie about obsession, and the dangers of becoming singularly-attached to a notion or ideology. The lead character's tying in of pi with the makeup of the natural world and the spark of life itself really lends itself to some thought. His...

Well, for my part, I just saw it as an unspoken conversation between them. He was flirting and playing the clown, and she called him a nut.

That conversation was acknowledged by Bob around frame 35883. Or was it 35884 ? :)

There is one line I read in the CNN review that would have been perfect for Bob to say – I bet Sofia wishes she would have thought of it: ("Don't think because I'm not saying much," he haltingly tells Gina in the film's sweetest scene, "that I wouldn't like to say a lot.") Perfect. I haven't seen i...

I think the void was something both Bob and Charlotte had in themselves already. They're leading completely different lifes but both seem to be in the same state of mind. Or, you know, some people will always be lost. I get your meaning, but I'm approaching it from the "punched in the stomach" angl...
