My vote would be for Groundhog Day. It has Bill Murray, and is readily available on DVD these days (yay!). The idea of becoming a better person after being given the chance to do things repeatedly until you get them "right" is one that many people can get into, and it is a movie with a great deal of...

I think there was something very mean-spirited about this film that never sat well with me. The tone was never consistent, and the film seemed to just get away from its creators at times. Despite all this, Bill Murray was enjoyable to watch, as usual, and it does start off with a gut-bustingly funny...

I'm afraid I have to join the "sorry I wasn't there" crowd. I had a date, and as much as I love this board and LiT, I couldn't pass up the opportunity for some actual human contact. :) Hopefully there will be a make-up viewing soon. I would have loved to see the new chat function in action, sounds l...

Feb 5th at 11:00 PM EST works for me, please count me in.
It is the 1st weekend of February. The Super Bowl is the next day, Feb 6.

Is there anyone that this date/time does not work for ?

P.S. - Are you sure you're not working that weekend, jml2 ? :)

That's great news, Bob!

I'm glad Chrissy decided not to keep the domain, but I'm sure she's glad to be rid of it,
with all the old links still out there pointing to it.

Thanks, John, *that* brought back some memories! I remember the "sharing rules" we used to have: For every 5 files you downloaded, you had to upload something to be shared with others. I also remember the day I installed a new program called Mosaic on our Unix server at the office, and wondered what...

I think we should probably make the distinction here between a "happy" marriage, and a "functional" marriage. A functional marriage can withstand a test such as this, but only because the goals of the marriage continue to be served by both partners. I think quite a few other factors come into play w...

haha fair enough...why do u put the underscores? That would be because I am an aging relic, jml...thanks for pointing it out. In order to show emphasis in our electronic communications back in the "olden days" (think 1990), we'd bookshelve words with underscores (or asterisks). Just a throwback to ...

Sorry, jml98, I was certainly _not_ seriously suggesting that. Just thought I'd throw it out there for it's shock value. This thread seems a good place for that.

Another topic of this movie is the relationship Bob is not having with his wife. Why do women change as they get older, why do they treat their husbands like crap. Why does material possessions mean so much more to women than it does to men. You can hear the contempt in her voice as she talks to hi...

Elliott Smith

Out of curiosity, what is your favorite album/song of his? Each album had its own personality, but I'd have to agree with XO. My favorite song of his depends on the mood I'm in that particular day, I think. It's a toss up between "Independence Day", "A Question Mark" and "Son of Sam", for me. The f...

The guys at Budget Travel really did their homework,
it is well worth seeing the article.

Thanks for pointing it out, Greg !

You might need to change the pop-up options to allow content from weareawake.org, which was the only snag I ran into with the default setup. Can you explain in more detail what you mean by this and what you were doing in the chat when a problem occured? I havent given chatspot more than a quick run...

I tested the new chat with Firefox 1.0, and it seems to work fine (I'm using the FISubSilver Shadow template). I haven't beat up on it extensively, but the basic functions seem to work well. You might need to change the pop-up options to allow content from weareawake.org, which was the only snag I r...

I suppose it's the idea of karma, repeatedly doing something until you get it "right". It's more of the concept, rather than any direct reference. Bill Murray's character goes through a life-changing transformation in that film, from self-consumed to selfless. And if you haven't watched Groundhog Da...

From what I've seen so far, I love it. We need to get together for a multi-user chat to test it properly, but the mods look like exactly what we needed. The screen-rebuilds were killing me on the last chat, and the more-frequent updates will be good. I really didn't mind the "clicks" on the updates ...

Bill Murray, Buddhism and LiT

I commented a while ago on what seemed to be a sort of philosophy behind the movie. The more I think about it, the more I see LiT as kind of an expression of Buddhism. The theme of the movie is transience (of relationships, in this case). Each of the characters spends a period of deep reflection alo...
