Yes, Cafe Lumiere is very beautiful, but it's also extremely hushed. I think LiT does a lot more with its silences, but the comparison isn't exactly fair, as I feel the two films are aiming for different effects. But I do feel that CL does for the Akihabara area what LiT does for Shinjuku. Also, as ...

Welcome, T-Dot! Your description of the feeling associated with watching LiT for the first time in a while reminds me of my first few times seeing the film. I couldn't stop thinking about it--and feeling almost physically the effect of it--for weeks. I necessarily found my way here to this group and...

Phoenix on SNL
Phoenix, the band that plays the song "Too Young" (during the night out in which Bob and Charlotte momentarily dance together), appeared on Saturday Night Live last night (April 4, 2009). They played two songs from a new record, I think, and then played "Too Young" as the show's ending credits were ...

New Tokyo films
Here's an interesting article from The NY Times...mentions LiT along with another fantastic film that I'd highly recommend: Chris Marker's Sans Soleil.

Another Kelly vs. Bob issue
I think I'd posted once before on Kelly and the female groupie--and the ways in which John and Bob, respectively, react to them in the presence of Charlotte. Here's another interesting comparison. In the Suntory commercial shoot, Bob bemoans the fact that his translator and director seem to be sayin...

There are some pretty interesting architecture photos that could be taken around Roppongi Hills. The Shibuya "scramble crossing" of course is an option (or the nearby statue of Hachiko). Maybe also some of the early morning fisherman at Tsukiji Market? Just random thoughts. Are you going for somethi...

Hey! Some nice connections there that I'd not realized. Maybe Kelly represents the type of movie actor (or person in general) that Bob wants to be damn sure not to become. It's as if she could be the negative outcome he wants to avoid. As such, Kelly pairs off with John (the relative negative in the...

Wall•E was fantastic; I'd highly recommend it to anyone, but I feel that LiT-Lovers could especially appreciate this film's subtlety (in parts) and the pervasive silences. I have more to say on this, but I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts if it's been seen. Also, I recently saw Paris Je t'Ai...

Kelly and the female groupie
I watched LiT just the other night (on my iPod) while flying back to New York from California. (It was pretty neat to watch it at night while passing over cities of glowing lights below.) I made a little connection that I hadn't really made before. When we first meet Kelly in the Park Hyatt outside ...

Same here. I actually just rewatched the film. I was heading out of NYC on the trains late at night and had a long wait till I got to where I was going. Through the graces of modern technology, I've equiped by iPod with LiT, so I can watch it whenever I feel the need. Generally, I find it odd to wat...

I love how the following represents "Disrespectful/Bad Attitude" Bob and Charlotte lie side-by-side on a bed (clothed) as they chat and he briefly puts his hand on her foot. Although both are unhappy with their marriages, Bob and Charlotte teeter on cheating with each other (they do briefly kiss on ...

Japancakes covers Loveless
I imagine some of you have heard about this, but I thought I'd share: The lovely, lush, slow, sprawling music of the Atlanta band "Japancakes" has fixed its eye (ear?) on My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" album (from which we get "Sometimes" from the LiT soundtrack). Japancakes is releasing a cover o...
