That was really hysterical. I usually find these YouTube re-edits to be pretty childish, but this was fun and clever.

E. B. White essay

I mentioned elsewhere on the forum that I'd post an E. B. White essay. Here's a fine example of what I consider to be some great writing. Dressing Up One of the male sparrows in Turtle Bay garden made a wonderful discovery at quarter past nine the other morning. He found a small length of blue confe...

Ithildriel, thanks for the compliment. I do hope that my words can begin to convey the feeling of being there, while all the while I know that they will always, necessarily fall short of capturing the lived experience. This is a common frustration I have with writing, and it's probably why I don't d...

Hi, folks. To answer a few questions: Yes, I did see the pool at the Park Hyatt. (It's a cool pool...) However, I saw it from a distance; you can see it through its geometric glass envelope if you look down from one of the windows at the NY Bar level. I wish we could have gotten closer...but alas. S...

By the way, when I was at the NY Bar in the Park Hyatt about two weeks ago, I didn't see the L.I.T. or the Sophia on the drink menu.

I'd agree with "To Here Knows When" from Loveless.

This is kind of a different mood, but what about "Higher" by The Cardigans? (I should note also, though, that I think "Just Like Honey" kind of nails it.)

Here's a link to various LiT-related photos I took while in Japan a couple of weeks ago.

If you're interested in seeing non-LiT-related photos from my trip, send me a PM.

LiT shooting script

I imagine many of you have found this already on your own (if your searches are anything like mine), but I thought I'd post this link to what seems to be a shooting draft of the LiT script: http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/lost-in-translation-script.html There are some significant differences here...

Epstein, I totally agree with you about Loveless; really almost all of it could have been used. Something like Touched is practically made for incidental scenes...

(Also, I just got back from Tokyo this past week--haven't dared to watch LiT yet.)

We went! Park Hyatt and the NY Bar are totally breathtaking. We heard a jazz combo with a singer who might have been The Jazz Singer--though she did not have red hair. I'm not sure...but somehow, it seemed like her. Heading to Kyoto early tomorrow morning, so must get to sleep now...but I promise I'...

Thanks so much, everyone, for your kind messages! Everything has continued to be amazing here. Tonight is the night for the NY Bar at the Park Hyatt! I'll be going to dinner elsewhere nearby in Shinjuku with my friend's family, but we'll then be heading over afterwards. I'll let you know if I meet C...

Hey!!! I'm in Japan right now.

Of LiT sites in Tokyo so far, I've been to the scramble crossing in Shibuya, a number of the nearby shrines, and have passed the Fujiya building that we see from Bob's taxi window at the end of the film. NY Bar at the Park Hyatt is coming up later in the week!

Top sites in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka

Dear WeAreAwake community, I'm heading to Japan on Monday for about 10 days (wish it were longer!). I'm going to mostly be in Tokyo but will take a short side-trip to Kyoto and Osaka for one day each. I'll be traveling with a native Japanese speaker. What I'm wondering is, given that there will be s...

Just saw Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille last night, and I loved it. (It was extra cool to go with one of my old friends who is now a cook in a pretty fancy NYC restaurant.) To be honest, I've not seen many of the Pixar films over the years...but I might go back and try to catch up after this. Really, it...

Thanks for the replies about my old class and Hitchcock. I've actually never seen The Lady Vanishes...it's on my list to see, though (and I've read about it). Strangers on a Train does have some incredible images. I'm thinking in particular of Bruno standing in his dark suit on the gleaming white st...

You all should definitely watch/re-watch Rear Window! Odd but personally important note: In fifth grade, one of my teachers was obsessed with Hitchcock (and film in general). In class over a number of weeks, we watched Rear Window, Vertigo (probably my all time favorite film), and Strangers on a Tra...
