eBay had a sony HDTV (32 inches) for $520. Was that including shipping? Still, any purchase over a few hundred dollars is a significant one. Especially since we refuse to use credit cards to buy anything with. I <3 eBay though. I've bought a lot of good used items there. I've had about a 98% succes...

Pitman, you have an HDTV? You're such a baller! lol

I know they are wonderful, but the frugality instilled in me by my mother just won't let me spend that kind of money on a tv set. I'd have to win Powerball in order to consider a purchase like that. *sigh*

300 doesn't really appeal to me. I just watched Cherry 2000 (1987) on cable and I liked it. It appealed to the feminist in me.

Favorite Japanese snacks?

I love Pocky sticks in chocolate or almond crush.

I heard that Ramune soda is very good.

Both are listed on this page:

I also love those crunchy wasabi peas and rice crackers too.

There were many years where I worked two jobs or just a lot of hours. My record at one hotel was 96 hours on the clock. But it wasn't all stressful hours. Doing setup and breakdown work is very easy. The food service wasn't too bad as long as the team was organized. So I feel that I wasn't using up ...

I thought Karoshi also meant to (literally) die at one's desk! Dying at your desk from overwork or dying at home exhausted from work stress is about the same thing... don't you think? I was reading an article about alternative Asian medicines, and one practitioner mentioned the concept of karoshi a...

Congrats on getting a hidef tv! I've love one, but I fear that my household is too cheap to ever splurge on one. I'm still sad about my Sony Trinitron tv dying two years ago. What makes me feel old is watching people with their Blackberries texting their friends. My thumbs are not that dexterous. Fo...

Just adding to this also, Suntory is apparently one of the worst companies in the world, in terms of innovation, people management, quality of managment, and even quality of products. No offense to anyone that works at Suntory or likes their products, but apparently, in the business world, they are...

Ernest Hemingway - Marlene Dietrich friendship

I came across this story today and found this very interesting and cool. :) Hemingway letters to Dietrich show strong friendship BOSTON -- Ernest Hemingway wrote letters so filled with longing and devotion to actress Marlene Dietrich -- sometimes signing off "I kiss you hard" -- that it's difficult ...

Not banned, just some sort of self imposed exile. One day (Sat Feb 17, 2007) he came back to the forum and deleted all of his posts under both names without any explanation at all.

Maintaining internet privacy, thoughts?

From a few other threads, some worries have been expressed regarding maintaining ones anonymity on the internet. And I thought that it might be helpful to all if we our collective experiences and observations to come up with some guidelines to keeping our internet lives from crossing over to real li...

You couldn't just pm Bob-san? Instead you had to make a public post to escalate essentially a non-issue. And that thread was posted in the Loveline - A/C section which I thought was there to discuss relationships. And I don't stereotype, but I do make a lot of observations. I am an American born Chi...
