300 doesn't really appeal to me. I just watched Cherry 2000 (1987) on cable and I liked it. It appealed to the feminist in me.

I just watched Frankie Starlight (1995) and I recommend it highly.

This past week I saw Mulholland Drive along with Lynch's first (short) film, The Alphabet. It's no wonder I've not slept normally the rest of the week...

I watched Le Divorce for the first time yesterday. I thought that it captured the French culture quite accurately. Would recommend.

Shopgirl (2005) with Steve Martin and Claire Danes. Based on a novella by Steve Martin. It's based a a real past relationship in Martin's life, like Sofia and what inspired LiT. Kind of a quirky film, but glad I saw it on cable for free. I like Claire Danes and think that she would have made a better Charlotte for LiT (for me).

Link for an article on the movie here.

I just don't like Scarlett Johansen as an actress. I can better imagine Claire as going to college and being a writer than Scarlett. But I know that you men prefer to look at Scarlett... *shrug*

I'm a guy, but I don't enjoy watching LiT just to look at Scarlett  . Granted, she is gorgeous, but it's her acting that stands out most. :)

Last movie I saw: Spider-Man 3 (twice so far). Now, it's obviously a different type of film than LiT, but this trilogy of films is so well crafted both visually and dramaturgically. I'd highly recommend it.

I just saw Cold Fever - a Japanese business man travels to Iceland and treks across the country to give his dead parents a proper ceremony at the river where they died.

The film was very good, I enjoyed the lack of dialogue and the scenery shots, a la LIT, and the journey he goes through and all the strange things he encounters... the worst part was the vile American couple, although that's what they were meant to be. Still an interesting film and well worth a look.

I watched Foxes (1980) last night (there weren't a lot of choices on tv). I was pleasantly surprised to like it a lot. Definitely a period 80's movie and it made me very grateful to have grown up in the Boston suburbs and not in LA. I really like Jodie Foster as an actress. The movie did make me feel a little old, but I liked that the teenage girls weren't all girly and giggly, and wearing lowrider jeans.

Double Happiness with Sandra Oh... sort of like Saving Face, and another movie for Pitman.

Proof... I really enjoyed it as I love Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins. A good movie for math geeks.

Tadpole... very good, sort of a quirky May-December romance storyline.

Just saw Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille last night, and I loved it. (It was extra cool to go with one of my old friends who is now a cook in a pretty fancy NYC restaurant.) To be honest, I've not seen many of the Pixar films over the years...but I might go back and try to catch up after this. Really, it was quite touching and delightful...not to mention amazingly animated. I'd highly recommend it.

Michael Moore's SiCKO.
Somewhat foreign concept to me being canadian and not living under the US healthcare system. I didn't know what HMO stood for until the other night. How do you feel about the American healthcare system compared to socialised medicine?
