Westerns seem to be making a small comeback. I never really appreciated them until I traveled in the southwest and west and then I got into them. I saw the new 3:10 To Yuma lately and really enjoyed it although it was sad at the end. I gotta see the original one. Also there is a new one with Brad Pitt.

Westerns are great! A few that I really enjoy are The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and if you count the "first contact" features as westerns, other favourites are The Last of the Mohicans and definitely The New World. There was a good miniseries on the AMC channel called Broken Trail with Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church, too.

Interestingly, 2009 was the first year in history where no features of the western genre came out.

Yes I want to see Broken Trail.

Where did you hear that about no Westerns in 2009?
If you look here in IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/genre/western
You can scroll down and find films defined as Western genre for 2009.
And then there is a filter here for all from 2009:
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genres ... &year=2009

On another note, funny thing is it lists Book of Eli as a Western even if it is postapocalyptic (science?) fiction. However on seeing it I did feel that it definitely had an old west vibe (in addition to the Mad Max vibe!).

For a western feeling but definitely not a western you guys might enjoy the Firefly/Serenity series. After the first few episodes it comes into its own and I found it to be totally entertaining.
