still collecting awards

#1 Post by jml2 » Sun Feb 27, 2005 5:07 pm

LIT won a Cesar (french) award for best foreign film.
Sofia and Ross Katz were both there to collect the award since they are currently in Paris working on Marie-Antoinette.
Sofia looked lovely.

She looks amazing.. :P
I'd rather be a gear in a big, deterministic, physical machine than just some random swerving.

"The Cesar trophy for best foreign film went to 'Lost in Translation' -- the bittersweet US comedy set in Japan and directed by Sofia Coppola which won a Screenplay Oscar at last year's US Academy Awards.
It was selected over '21 Grams', 'Fahrenheit 9/11', 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and 'Motorcycle Diaries'. The latter two films have been nominated in Oscar categories this year, in Best Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay categories, respectively."

This film is just amazing. Almost a year and a half later and it is still right on the top of the critics' awards.

The fact that Sofia Coppola is currently in France (in production) for the filming of "Marie Antoinette" offers the explanation of why she wasn't at the Independent Spirit Awards (with Quentin Tarantino) or the Oscars last night (as a possible presenter).

The google translation of that is:
César of best foreign film was decreed Saturday evening in Paris with "Lost in translation" of Sofia Coppola, which had already obtained the Oscar of the best scenario for this film. "Thank you", simply Sofia Coppola declared, but in French, by receiving his César of the hands of Eva Herzigova and the scenario writer Costa Gavras. In "Lost in translation" Bob Harris (Bill Murray), actor on the decline, goes to Tokyo to turn a commercial. He is aware that he is mistaken - he should be at his place with his family, play theatre or seek a role in a film -, but he needs money. In this same establishment, Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), an American young person coldly graduate, accompanies her husband, photographer of mode. This last seems to be interested more in its work with his wife. Feeling forsaken, Charlotte seeks a little attention. She will find some at Bob. The other films in string were "21 grams" of Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu, "Notebooks of voyage" of Walter Salles, "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" of Michel Gondry and "Fahrenheit 9/11" of Michael Moore
