Hey, does anyone knows what Bob tells to Sharlotte at the end of the movie, before their kiss? He is whispering something, but I can understand only couple of words.
Please help me!!!

The subtitles state the whisper in the ear as "inaudible". The sound team would've made sure the viewer wouldn't hear what Bob says to Charlotte. There have been countless posts saying that if you turn the sound up to full volume you can hear what Bob says, but in truth no one knows what Bob says to Charlotte (if anything is said at all), except Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. It's best you don't know what Bob says, because it would be by all accounts much too banal. It's best the viewer doesn't know.

"Promise you won't give up that easy. On the flight back, tell him the truth, ok?"

"Those involved with the movie -- Bill, Sofia, Scarlett -- have said that "The Whisper" involved Bob finally telling Charlotte how he feels about her, after all the times she has done so, only to be answered with something defensive but funny from Bob.

But anyone who tells you they know what he said is full of Twinkie-filling."

I love Bob's expression when he got back in the cab. Such relief. Whatever it was that he said, it had to be said, otherwise both he and Charlotte would be truly lost. Forever maybe.
I'm glad it didn't turn out that way. They were just found.

Bob whispers to Charlotte, "Promise me, the next time he makes you feel that you're not special, cry if you have to and tell him the truth, ok?"

Go back to the karaoke number that she sang, "Brass in Pocket" with the lyrics, "I'm special, so special, got to have some of your attention, give it to me."

Now go back to the sushi luncheon (the day after night with the Sausalito singer) and Bob's comment, "Wasn't there anyone else there to lavish you with attention?"

Bob wants to make her assert herself and make her presence known to John, that she is not the afterthought.

Nooo... That is not what I read into it. It had to be something more emotional - she started to cry you know. The romantic in me saw something else...

The ending is open to your own interpretation. This is just what I thought. There is no definite right or wrong, and the answer will never be divulged.

The best story I read regarding the whisper came from Bill Murray himself in the December 2004 issue of Esquire Magazine (he later repeated this on the Jane Pauley show). He was taking a ferry from Martha's Vineyard to the mainland during the summer. There was another ferry in the area. A gentleman on the other boat spotted Bill Murray and yelled across, "Hey Bill (every head turned in Murray's direction), what did you whisper to Scarlett Johansson at the end of "Lost in Translation"? Just then the horn blew and Murray mouthed (of course with exaggeration) an inaudible reply. He ended the reply at the same time the horn stopped blowing.

So we've heard, and it's excellent! A golden star for Bill Murray and his wit.

I stand firmly on my opinion that the whisper is pretty much inaudible, and that none of us will ever be sure what it is.

Pish Tosh indeed!
I'd rather be a gear in a big, deterministic, physical machine than just some random swerving.
