Films like LIT? Are there any?

Although there might not be any films in the same league as LIT,
are there any that gave you a similar emotional response at least?

Here are a couple you guys might want to check out:
Ghost World (same sort of "lost" characters, with a bittersweet narrative)
La Dolce Vita (Fellini creates a very interesting atmosphere with this film)
Pierrot le Fou (same sort of plot, with a playful mood)

Unfortunately some of these are rather hard to find, and I want to suggest them with one caveat:
Do NOT watch them with any expectations to be like LIT, they are simply films that gave me a similar emotional response. If you watch them without expectations, you will surely enjoy them more.

If anyone has any film suggestions let's hear them please!
I'm sure I can think of more if I rack my brains...

I invoke that disclaimer for these films: Paperhouse, and Vertigo."

i've seen ghost world, just b/c scarlett was in it...a quirky little movie; pretty good, but it doesn't evoke that emotional response that LiT does; for those of you who haven't seen it, LITobsession is right: don't watch it with expectations

p.s. congrats on charlie brown status johnmonkey!

Oh, I didn't notice! I'm always surprised by my icon, that I don't look at the rest of it.
How high up is 'Charlie Brown'?"

Scandinavian films often have that "naturalistic" feeling. I like swedish and danish drama/comedies. Danish director Susanne Bier does good stuff.

The two films that I found hold the most similarity to LiT is "The Breakfast Club" and "Good Will Hunting".

I'd have to add Japanese Story with Toni Collett. It is an Australian film released in 2003 or 2004, I believe. She meets a Japanese man and they initially hate one another. But then their feelings change. They are both lost and have trouble communicating.

There is a huge, surprising twist in the plot and it leaves me feeling emotionally vulnerable, just like LiT.

I still like LiT better but Japanese Story is worth a watch.

I have always liked Rob Reiner's "The Sure Thing." It is cruder and more childish than "LiT, " but it's fun to watch the main characters' (John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga) relationship grow into something special. Plus some of the dialogue is hilarious.

I agree with Kathy's sentiments. I watched Japanese Love Story too. It showed people's prejudices and discomforts toward others with different cultures (Australian vs Japanese), languages and customs, and how this impedes communicating and getting to know others at a deeper, more personal level. It took an outback trip for the Australian woman and the Japanese businessman to break down their communication barriers as their trip progressed.

An unexpected ending. Go rent it!

Japanese Love Story huh? Makes me curious.

Has anyone here seen the japanese film "Dolls"? I've heard that it is supposed to be good, and very beautiful as well.

For some reason Japanese Story didn't resonate with me at all. I had heard good things about it, and sincerely was enjoying it up until the "inccident" occurs.

Afterwards the plot and the characters become too passive IMO. I just wish the director spent more time on the relationship aspect than the later aspect.

Trying to be tactful in saying this w/o giving away any spoilers.

well, before i became Charlie Brown, i asked Bob how many posts i needed to get there...he didn't want to tell me! (said it would ruin the surprise) Does that mean he won't post a list? Perhaps, but maybe we can change his mind with enough support :D

Magnolia, not like LIT, but is a very strong movie. Seriously one of the best movies I have seen besides LIT. If you like movies that will leave you thinking this is one of those.

I thought Magnolia was a bit too ambitious and stumbled at the very last hurdle. It doesn't have the amount of power LiT has.

I agree. While a couple of Magnolia's stories worked well (the Jason Robards and Tom Cruise threads, notably), the others seemed contrived, unrealistic or simply uninvolving. Something about P.T. Anderson just grates on me, I suppose. But Aimee Mann's soundtrack was stellar, and I caught myself listening to it just a few days ago.
