Im thinking of visting Tokyo,because i love this movie and it alos just seems like a very interesting and different place to visit. Has anyone on these boards ever been? Any advice?

I have been, just stay away from the subway unless you like being really close to people taxis are kinda expensive. Take lots of photos and not only of tourist places, get 'everyday' things, i see to many photos of tourist places and not of 'real' Japan. you should visit the little snack shops in the alley's. Walking around will be entertaining enough, at least it was for me.

Where are you staying?

Nothings booked yet, although i dont have a massie budget so it wont be any majorly fancy hotel.

i stayed at the shinjuku star which was really cheap, (about 35 pounds sterling) and was just off yaksuni dori. if you remember the part bob passes at the start of the movie in the taxi with all the lights etc, thats yaksuni dori. at one end you'll see an overpass for trains and behind that skyscrapers etc. keep going down this road and its on the right hand side about 5 minutes walk.....

actually, after watching the film again this weekend i feel like a return to tokyo myself this year.....it´s been two years nearly since the last visit.....

just read one of the posts on the locations sticky- lost in boston remarked that the new york bar is getting renovated from july through september. i can't really see the need apart from the fact that being in an L shape some of the tables were a little isolated from the main dinig area. You'd think that the notoreity the film brings would have beenreason enough to keep it as it is. I'd be surprised if they removed the bar though....anyway, 50/50 whether i have the discipline to save for the trip......even if it is for two months....

hey everyone! i haven't been here in a LONG time! it's good to see this place still buzzing with activity...


anyways, i thought some of you might be interested (and jealous) to know that this summer I'm spending a week in Tokyo!!! AND, i might even stay at the park hyatt tokyo. Even if i don't, i'll be sure to visit the hotel and order a drink (dont' they have one named after sofia?). i could be sitting in the same seat that Bob (and charlotte) sat. i can't wait.

i want to spend a day just visiting all the places that bob and charlotte went to (i might pass up the weird strip club though..).

May can't arrive fast enough.

Maybe you can find and bring back some of those stuffed owls for all of us!!
