I imagine some of you have heard about this, but I thought I'd share:

The lovely, lush, slow, sprawling music of the Atlanta band "Japancakes" has fixed its eye (ear?) on My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" album (from which we get "Sometimes" from the LiT soundtrack).

Japancakes is releasing a cover of the entire Loveless album in their own style (no vocals, a little twang instead of the fuzz, etc.)

Only Shallow, the first track, is available for free download here:

You can check out the album (and some of Japancakes' older stuff) on Amazon and other similar sites. Personally, I love the chewy distortion and ridiculous overdubs of MBV (and, of course, Loveless is their album), but I think Japancakes' style is interestingly suited to this music...a pleasant combination in my mind.

I think covers are always good, because they draw attention to the original. And this way a whole new fan base may open up for MBV with those who have never heard of the original band.

It sounds pretty good.
