I was just browsing amazon (looking for the LIT hardback book) when I found this:

Not releasedd till march 31st though. Could throw up some interesting debate, maybe some ground we haven't covered!

Great find! Though I'm a bit wary of reading a really in-depth critique of the film, as I'm afraid it may color the way I personally feel about it and what the film means to me.

Columbia University Press is distributing the book in the U.S.

According to the product description on amazon, the book includes a "consideration of online responses to the film"

I wonder if that means us?

Anyone read it? I'm a bit cautious of spending £12 on a book that might ruin the film for me.

As soon as I can rise above the poverty line, I'll happily plunk down the £12 to get this book. In the meantime, I hope someone else buys it and lets us all know. Actually, no, selfishly-speaking, I don't: I want to be the first! Seriously, it would be nice if the book found its way into the hands of a few fans, and if they could do it justice with an honest review, getting the word out, whether that word be good or ill. One thing that immediately disappoints me, I must admit, is noting the publication is a mere one-hundred-and-sixty pages. That's nowhere near enough for a substantive analysis, let alone in all the areas it is purported the author has written about. Oh, well. Since this book is the first of its kind (for LIT; that I'm aware of), I suppose one shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. If it's well-written and insightful, I'll be proud to have it on my shelf!

The book was delivered today so I'm quite excited. Still a
bit scared to read it though, just in case it DOES ruin it
for me. Quite pleased with it though, seems to go quite deep
and there's even quite a few black and white pictures
dotted about as well.

didn't expect anyone to have it so quickly! is it accessible to the average reader do you think?I think I may have to get a copy but I have so many books that I need to read for university...

I think it is quite accessible to the average reader and it's only about 140 odd pages so i'm sure you could fit it in somewhere. I've read about 15 pages and so far (SPOILER) it's about funding for the film and a little bit of history about independant cinema.

Given the amount of discussion of the film on this forum, I can't imagine what could in that book that might "ruin" it for someone that isn't already in this forum! It sounds like maybe if it goes into the background of the making of the film then that's information we don't have as readily available. I'm going to see about getting the book. Thanks the post on it!

I just noticed that Amazon has its 'look inside!' feature enabled for this book; didn't realise it when it was first released. Looks like there's a lot of background info that's researched by the author... will get it soon!

I have this book and intend to post a review of it. Of course, I also intend to finish the "Chapter By Chapter" threads, so don't put too much stock in that.
