TV translator in real life show? (Most likely not)

#1 Post by stansimpson » Tue Mar 23, 2010 1:12 am

I just stumbled upon an old Japanese tv show from the 80s with Weird Al performing in his own Lost In Translation experience (you can totally see the confusion in his face). The crazy part: Recognize the translator? She's the same one on Matthew's Best Hit TV that translates for Bob! At least I'm pretty sure it's her. Her voice and mannerisms are the same, and she's obviously much younger too (as she should be).

I don't suppose anyone can verify?

That's hilarious, and so awkward.

I don't think it's the same person though. The one translating for Weird Al was probably an actual translator, while in LiT it appears to be an actress (Kei Takyo) who I think looks too young to have been on that show in 1984.

Thanks. Yeah, the more I kept thinking about it, the more I figured they're probably not the same person. I did find them very similar looking though. Also, my "quick math" wasn't as good as my "actual math", so, yeah, the age difference would be too great too.

Also, I was wondering if the person they got for LIT was a real translator or not. I mean, they got a real tv show host. Why not a real translator as well, right?
