Received an email just now as I have this film in my wish list- this is not 100% confirmed yet but a blu-ray release would be logical with the upcoing release of somewhere. A new transfer would be good as I have the HD DVD and it is patchy in places- also a few extra special features would be good, especially a commentary.

If this is released does Bob have an amazon affiliate account we can click through to order? [/i]

Ha! I was just coming here to post the same thing. I'm looking forward to this release and hope it will be a good transfer (with commentary??).

Hope everyone's well out there.

I am still awake.

YEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!

At long, long last !!!

I second the desire to see improved picture quality, too.

The HD-DVD transfer was incredibly disappointing (in parts, the image is so soft that it offers no discernible improvement over the 480p DVD transfer).

Hopefully, they'll throw in some new extras, too. Wouldn't mind seeing the old ones ported over, either.

COME ON !! 8) 8)

I hear that, on Blu-Ray, the whisper will be audible.

Kidding!

Hi samwright8380 and all,

I am psyched for this release and it may end up being the first Blu-ray product I buy!

I do have an Amazon affiliate link you can use which I am posting below. I have had it on my agenda to build a sales page on the site but have been sidetracked for some time. In the meantime, let's see if this code works. I may have to try a few times to get it right. . . and THANKS!!! :D

Lost in Translation - Blu-ray

Update:
Also note that in order for an affiliate to get credit, you need to add the item to cart within 24 hours of click thru and purchase within 89 days!

Check out the site store page I am working on:

I have been waiting a long time for Blu-Ray. Will get it for sure. But I don't expect much improvement if any since the film was shot on 35mm. Nevertheless, it will be the best quality available both visually and sonically.

No new special features unfortunately.....from a press release on the blu-ray.com website:

Lost in Translation
"Lost" on Location
Matthew's Best Hit TV
Music video: Kevin Shields, "City Girl"
Deleted scenes
A conversation with Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola
Theatrical Trailer

As there's nothing extra added from the HD-DVD release I'm not sure there'll be a new transfer either. The HD disc is a bit patchy, in some spots you don't notice any difference over the dvd version, other times such as when charlotte is sitting in the window, it looks great.

As far as I'm aware, film stock has the potential to render things in resolution far in excess of 1080p; 70mm definitely (baraka being a case in point), it's only 16mm that would be a problem I would have thought and I can't see LIT being shot in 16mm.

Bob_San, I am not sure if you can do this, but is it possible for you to create a Canadian Amazon affiliate link for us up north? Would love to contribute to the site in some way.

any stock of film, 35mm included is capable of transfer to blu ray that, if done correctly, can put films shot in HD and encoded to blu ray to shame.

take a look at these stills from the blu ray transfer of psycho (which was shot over 50 years ago on 35mm)

hopefully the LiT transfer gets the treatment it deserves.

This is something I have just looked into. Unfortunately Amazon runs each country's sites and affiliate program independently. I'm going to have to look into other affiliate options for members outside the US. . .

So this is a US only Blu-Ray release? I can't find anything about it in the UK :(

Has anyone bought it yet? how is the quality?

This is listed on Amazon UK but it seems to be imported.

Amazon.com seems to have it in stock now while Amazon Canada says it will be released January 4.

Released in the U.S, there's a review here:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Lost-in-T ... 02/#Review

It seems as though it's a port of the HD-DVD release, and there's no new special features.

The currently four user reviews are very positive!

I am somewhat shocked to see that with almost 2000 reviews on Amazon, the film only has 3 stars there. I thought it used to have more but the haters probably brought it down. I guess if you haven't reviewed it on there time to go do so and help bring it up!

Hi Bob! I've just bought it and another Sting Bluray with your code... the amazon ratings are quite interesting It's quite? rare for a movie to have a U-shape rating? So many people gave it 5 stars, but just as many absolutely hated it and gave it 1-star! Of course, that means the average is 3-stars LOL

Interestingly, at IMDB (also owned by amazon), most gave it 8,9 or 10/10 stars. (134000 votes)

Got this! I'm a huge fan of the cinematography and 'look' of this movie. Some people have told me that it looks "awful" and they're insane. :x
