It looks like Amazon or Universal is playing some strange game here.
I live in Europe (Luxembourg) but I ordered the blu-ray disc from the US as soon as it was available. Sure enough it plays fine on the blu-ray player I bought in my hometown.
This is because Universal Studios have released all of their titles region-free. So no problem with regions at all.
By the way, the blu-ray version is gorgeous! The picture is much clearer than the dvd version, without losing the "film-feel".
