Hey all...I was just wondering and would like to hear some of your ideas about the following: What if Sophia could not get Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson to play the lead roles? Who can you imagine stepping into these roles?

I'll go first.

Kevin Spacey & Thora Birch.

They were in American Beauty together.

Hey Pitman. Good to see you're still alive and kicking.

I think that's an inspired choice. But it's hard to imagine anyone but Bill Murray doing that role.

George Clooney and Natalie Portman? Clooney isn't a goofy as Murray obviously, but he can do comedy. Plus it would be hard to believe that Clooney as an over the hill actor. Obviously, it would have been a very different movie but still interesting.

Portman is more believable if only because the Charlotte character seems less unique.
With intensity.

George Clooney and Natalie Portman?
Prior to Up in the Air I would never have considered Clooney, but that was actually a similar role which I rather liked. I now think he could have fit into the role of Bob very well.

Charlotte is harder for me...I can't really think of another actress who can do Scarlett's smirk, or the "look" in the cook-your-own-food restaurant, or the "look" in the cab ride back from karaoke. To me, those make the role more than any of her line deliveries.
