......what was the movie that had the deepest emotional effect on you?
For me it was "Chasing Amy", not coincidently another funny/sad film about impossible love.

The most stunning aspect of "Chasing Amy" for me was "The Speech". Ben Affleck gives Joey Lauren Adams the love confession of a lifetime in that film. I really am kind of irked at Kevin Smith for throwing down the gauntlet for the rest of us. Now, we have to come up with even more original and meaningful things to say to our would-be loves...

L.A. Story

Oh..this is an old one. The movie that made the biggest impression on me…when I was still young and impressionable is “A Thousand Clowns.” Funny, the main character’s name is “Murray.” It was nominated for a number of Academy Awards in 1965.

It’s about a “man-child” who is freethinking; a non-comformist that drops out of society. In order not to lose the nephew that he has cared for and the social services woman who has entered his life, he chooses to conform and hold onto the people he loves. As mentioned, its an old movie, black and white, but it is a movie with characters that make you think about your own life. I think from that day forward, I believed the most exciting and interesting people are those that march to the sound of their own very personal drummer. Alas, they don't often make the best partners in life though.

If they ever remake this movie, Bill Muray is the perfect "Murray Burns."

This will probably sound weird, but "Midnight Cowboy". It's kind of an ugly film, but maybe that's why it made such an impact on me. I guess it is one of those films that you don't really know what to expect when you first see it, and it creeps up on you.

I'm a big tough firefighter and I had tears on my cheeks at the end. The worst part was I watched it at work! lol I didn't live that one down for a while.

Eh not quite! I saw it twice when it came out in 1988 and I was quite taken with it.

I wonder if its out on video or dvd.

I thought I answered this one.

I say it a few times in the theater, and I was able to get a VHS on eBay a year or two ago.

UK's Amazon has it for sale, but of course it's Region 2 or whatever. Being British, it has no extras but the trailer and no captions.

It seems to be out of print in these United States of America."

"Riding in cars with boys"- great movie. It had a similar effect on me as LiT only in much smaller doses, but it was a bit too sappy.

The Green Mile was so sad, but i didnt think it was a great film

My favourite before LIT has to have been American Beauty.

i actually think that American Beauty is the best film ive ever seen, LIT being second, but Lost in Translation is my favourite

raging bull, because i have seen people who tear themselves apart and alienate themselves from all meaningful relationships as it is simply within their nature. and of course LiT, which is why i'm here in the first place

Speaking of The Green Mile, I'm going to have to agree 100%. It moved me a lot, but it would take a lot of coaxing to get me to admit that it was actually worth getting Tom Hanks to gain 40lbs for the filming .
