I'm still laughing from the The Life Aquatic trailer

Bill's opening dance scene while interviewed by Cate's character in the trailer is priceless :!:

Now the anticipation for the Dec release will seem like an eternity  Bill doesn't disappoint me with his comedy, and this looks like its going to be another winning performance for Bill too.

It appears there's a limited Dec 10 US film release with a full release by Christmas

the trailer is hilarious and the film looks great; Bill Murray dancing to techno is worth my admission any time! is this film a light hearted comedy? or is it a darker comedy like some of wes anderson's other films..?

There seems to be a lot of David Bowie songs which is great(Rebel Rebel is also Bowie song if I'am not mistaking). The movie is already out , has anyone seen it? I want to go next week.

i haven't seen it...at least around here, though, it doesn't seem to be that popular (it wasn't even sold out when it first opened) but maybe that's because there are other movies with more hype like Meet the Fockers...the local newspapers (SF Chronicle) says it is "almost great"...i guess we'll have to see

Just a quick review

I saw it for the first time today with my girlfriend -- I loved it, she liked it. Pretty much what you'd expect from Wes Anderson, in a good way. Some interesting gunfights.

My wife and I saw the movie this past weekend.
As from the trailers and reviews not knowing what to make of it, I still
after seeing it don't know what to make of it.

I would not say it a laugh out loud hilarious kind of movie although there
were a couple people in the theater who did just that sometimes.
It is more like understated silliness and smiles humor with little gags
in a lot of places not always noticed. For example the red hats they wear
all the time, the crew member who is topless much of the time, the electricity always going out, the guy
who constantly plays his guitar everywhere they go and apparently
he is playing Bowie songs translated into portuguese. My wife who is a
big Bowie fan told me that after the movie. Jeff Goldblum and his whole
rich highly financed undersea operation counterpart to Bill is pretty funny.

She said the part Bill played seemed much like the part he played in LIT
because his character is a sad washed up filmmaker/actor/diver etc.
I felt that while one could see this similarity, it's clear he is playing
a different role although indeed he is depressed/sad but not without a spark
of dry (droll?) understated humor.

But the film has quite a few other characters and actors that are great
in their own right that helps move the film along. It's not all candy and
roses though as the film at times takes a dark turn when they have
to deal with pirates.

I kind of view this film as a documentary (Jacquesumentary?! ) of a
documentary but in an oddball sort of way. I love the graphics they use
to create out of this world undersea creatures and landscapes. It's cute.
Also there are always animals of some kind around such as cats on the
ship everywhere and reptiles of all sorts. Including one scene which
my wife who loves animals and cute baby ones just about died when Bill
rescues these little baby seals or something. And then there is the silly
theme music.

One can appreciate it all the more having watched Jacques Couteau a lot
as a kid way back when. Apparently they are releasing a 12 set
DVD of his work in April.

I really enjoyed it and thought it was pretty hilarious.

I would like to see it again and I've watched Rushmore dozens of times so there are some of us who enjoy Anderson's movies more than once.

well I finally got to see this today. (Australia can be so far behind), I actually loved it :) I don't understand all the lukewarm reviews it got, especially from critics that like Wes Anderson, it's exactly the same as everything else he does. Except it was better, there was more feeling than usual, which is why I loved this when I don't feel particularly enthused by the rest of Wes's movies.
it even made me want to be an adventurer.
I think I might be alone on this
ps I loved the David Bowie too

So some of you guys are actually getting this film on DVD this month? It only just got released at the cinema here in Scandinavia! But I saw it this weekend and I adored it. I'll get it on DVD and watch it over and over. Without spoiling anything for the ones who haven't seen it, all I can say is -- crazyeyes!

Bill is greying. I thought of his character in LiT as someone in his late 40s, but in TLA he sure has aged. It suited the TLA character though.

I laughed many times, I really liked "The Royal Tenenbaums" but this I liked even more. I'm a total fan of kitsch, this film has tons of it but it still kept some subtleness and credibility.
