This was in yesterday's paper...sounds like divine intervention to me.
FRANKLIN COUNTY
Seeking a light, smoker shoots self
A woman staying at a northeast Georgia motel last week shot herself in the hand while trying to light a cigarette- with a loaded gun. Olivia Hutcherson, 21, mistook the .22-caliber pistol on the nightstand for a cigarette lighter, said Lavonia Police Chief Randy Shirley.

I guess her regular everyday lighter is also equipped with a barrel and trigger. Could happen to anyone, really.
I'd rather be a gear in a big, deterministic, physical machine than just some random swerving.

Yeah, anyone who has the brilliance to keep both a gun-shaped lighter and a real gun on the same table...

Even if they did, don't guns have safety mechanisms?
I don't like guns, I've seen one but I've never touched one. It just doesn't seem this is a mistake you can make.
Maybe if you are on some hallucinogen...

My assumption is that she was asleep and woke up and wanted a smoke and didn't turn on the light. It's a miracle she didn't blow her nose off, or worse.
