Anyone who has been to Tokyo will have traveled on the subway at one point. One of the fairly unique things I remember are the short jingles that would play to let you know when a train is arriving/departing. They are quite an everyday sound that you wouldn't necessarily associate with Tokyo. As there is a niche hobby for just about anything, so there are groups of people who go around recording all the songs at each station. Here's a link to one:

There's probably a better site out there somewhere, but this gives you an idea. The Yamanote Line is the main subway route.
