Some DVD notes
I'm watching a copy of the DVD for the first time.
Just wanted to note a few things.
When I started watching it I noticed how crisp and full the picture was.
I checked the bitrate and it's 448 which is considered "super bit".
Most dvds are released in 192 bitrate (some are 384 which is
very good) and you can tell its not as nice.
Believe it or not some companies release a higher bit rate copy
under the title super bit (like with Charlies Angels) to make more money.
I have to applaud the makers of the LIT dvd for doing it right the first time!
I cant find the post but someone commented that the more dimly lit scenes
were darker on their tv watching the dvd. I have found the opposite to
be true for mine. The dimmer scenes in the theature like the first
elevator ride and when Bob is in the hotel lobby are lit very well now.
I wonder if it has to do with the brightness/contrast settings on my tv.
But anyway this is my 6th viewing of the film, and the first time since I
last saw it in the theature last December. I'm about halfway through
and if I note anything else I'll post more!

Another note:
Has anyone watched the credits all the way to the end?
There is a smiling japanese woman who waves goodbye.

To preserve the integrity of the film, it was necessary to maintain this level of audio quality.johnmonkey wrote:I read on a DVD review site that the high quality sound (which is no doubt related to what you're talking about) takes up so much space that there wouldn't've been enough space for a commentary.
If you crank your headphones after the karaoke/taxi scene, while Bob is carrying Charlotte to her room, you'll be pleased to note that the "hum" you hear is not the drone of the air conditioner (as has been reported in a couple of reviews), it is actually "Sometimes" still playing at a very, verrrrrry low volume. In fact, the song seems to follow Charlotte to sleep. Gorgeous attention to a detail that would have been lost if a more "standard" bitrate had been used, I think.

Yes the sound and music in the film is so integral and important to whathull_street wrote:To preserve the integrity of the film, it was necessary to maintain this level of audio quality.
the film is that I am glad they did this.
As for the hum, when I saw the movie and heard that I just assumed it was
A/C. But Ill try cranking it up to see if I hear the song instead.

I'm watching the dvd on my pc and I can slow it down to see things that I had not noticed when I first saw the movie
in real time and things go by kind of fast.
For example when Charlotte first sees Bob in the bar and she is at a table with a bunch of other people,
I couldnt tell who was at the table other than her husband. But now I can see that he is sitting next to Charlie Brown and
they are going over some of his photos. And laughing a bit about them.
I didn't realize Charlie was in the film before they meet him in the night club on their first night out.
Yes it is this sort of minutia that makes dissecting the film all the more fun and then talking about here!

Yup, Sophie mentions this in the DVD when they're talking about the sound designer Beggs; 'he muffles the sound so that it rings in your ear, like a residue of the song.'hull_street wrote:If you crank your headphones after the karaoke/taxi scene, while Bob is carrying Charlotte to her room, you'll be pleased to note that the "hum" you hear is not the drone of the air conditioner (as has been reported in a couple of reviews), it is actually "Sometimes" still playing at a very, verrrrrry low volume. By the way after watching more of the film in slow motion ,
and watching the house party, I realized that the woman waving goodbye
at the end of the credits was one of the girls at the party. She is sitting
next to Charlotte when they take polaroids. And then that guy Hans (?)
comes up and introduces himself. She's cute too!
And what am I doing up at this late hour?! Yes I are awake dammit!

I beleive she is a famous (in Japan, anyway) photographer and a friend of Sophia. Apparently several of the casual "extras" for the night out were actually local celebrities. --Sorry to have little information, but all the talk of these things is now old and I can't remember sources anymore, so I can't find the info.
The Suntory translator was the cutest though."

I watched the movie a few times on Starz and its also at the end of the credits, so its not just on the Dvd, by the way I heard Scarlett didn't contribute much comments on the film, thats strange. And is there "City Girl" video by Kevin Shields? If so is it cool? I'am thinking of buying it cause its just $9 on sale here. I bet its worth every penny but for now, I have it on TiVo so I can watch the movie on my tv at 11pm which is so cool to do.

the DVD has the music video (just a montage of charlotte really, but its cool i guess). There aren't many extras actually, but there is a nice little 30 min "making of" feature thats pretty cool. A lot of it is Sofia telling the camera how much she loves bill murray.... Ur more than an average fan (im guessing, by your membership to this site) so you should ahve it, especially cuz its 9 bucks...
German DVD
"I'm looking at the images in www.scarlettjohansson.org for LIT, and I see that there's a section for "Interview from the German DVD".
Does anyone have info about this interview, or any other differences in the German DVD?"

Or something closer to our package, like this?
Hell, this one is nice too.
Here are some new DVD shots, starting with a beautiful menu.
Here are some French menus."
