Memoirs of a Geisha
it's an average movie. For me personally it was enjoyable but forgettable. I liked the pretty things and I liked the actresses, long time fan of Gong Li.

Mom, my wife, and I saw that -- the beginning's a bit brutal, but it is pretty interesting after that. I wouldn't see it again more than once every few years."

Vanity Fair.

Decent enough to keep me entertained and pass the time.

The Island.

It was so-so overall. Of course Scarlett looked great. And the chase scene was very well done.

I loved The Island!

Just saw X-Men 3. It was sad, not great, but reasonably good.

Yeah, the wife wanted to see XMen3, so we went Sunday. It'll keep you in your seat -- (stay through the credits though to found out that hmm-hmm isn't really dead) -- but the movie implies a lot of moral and intellectual problems which it doesn't discuss let alone resolve. My wife told me how it was different from the original, and she left me thinking that it was an OK movie which would make a good comic book series.

Some of my friends saw X3, for them it was the event of the year (I'm not into that stuff), although they all came out in disbelief of how it didn't live up to the hype. And while we're on the topic of protesting movies, you can be sure that I was there on the opening night of the Da Vinci Code to tell all those stupid protestors (I'm a Christian too, BTW) to go home and look up "fiction" in the dictionary. Check and mate.
I'd rather be a gear in a big, deterministic, physical machine than just some random swerving.

Clerks Two

#32 Post by jm » Sun Jul 23, 2006 6:27 am

"Saw Clerks 2. Slept through a little of it, as it was a midnight showing that the wife insisted on, but I don't think I slept through too much. Pretty good overall, but I thought it had too much plot. I don't like skinny women too much, but even so, the love interest was quite interest-generating.

And Amy thought that there wasn't enough Jay and Silent Bob.

P.S. Elvis impersonator decides to stop complaining that there are only three seasons of the original Star Trek and does something about it!"

Yea Ive seen those New Voyages and there are quite a few other Trek fan groups out there that have created their own espisodes.
There is one particularly prolific group who use CGI for the sets
who have produced over 30 "episodes".

I rented both the Pursuit of Happyness and Children of Men.

Pursuit was good; that's the last movie I saw.

I just saw Children of Men, and my god, was that an epic dystopian movie if I ever saw one.

Easily one of my top 10 of 2006..

SPOILER************

I love how it was shot in long continuing scenes. Very ambitious.

The scene near the end where it follows Theo (Clive Owen's character) through the battle to search for Kee and the baby was absolutely amazing.

The part right after when Theo and Fee walk out of the house, holding the baby in full light, is one of my favorite moments in any movie I've ever seen. The whole world seems to stop everything it's doing: for a moment, all the suffering by those people is stopped; the war is stopped; Clive Owen is shot, as it is later reveleaed, but that pain is put on hold also.

What an AMAZING sequence and an AMAZING movie.

END SPOILER ********

PLEASE GO SEE IT IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY>

Yes I want to see Children of Men

Recently saw:
Miss Potter - Very good!

Pan's Labyrinth - believed the movie to be about a girl who goes into a fantasy world of some kind but actually the film is about
war and torture and violence and death. Not my cup of tea.
Those spaniards are a depressing bunch!

300 - AWESOME!!!
