I saw it alone on Starz at 11pm. The volume was low so as to not wake up the house, and I noticed a kind of soothing serenity while watching the movie (ESPECIALLY the Kyoto scenev and when Bob/Charlotte go over Rainbow Bridge and Sometimes is playing).
Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else get a sense of calmness when watching it?

Yeah there are so many scences
There seems to be a interesting subtle difference between loneliness and peacefulness.
Charlotte alone in her hotel room, Bob alone in his, the entire Kyoto sequence --> both are quiet scenes, but there is a feeling of loneliness rather than peacefulness
Bob/Charlotte talking in bed --> a sense of serenity. They aren't lonely because they are with each other; they are just at peace.
That's just my opinon of course; different people may have different feelings from these scenes.

I often watch it at night to escape, especially if I had a bad day. I was alone on my first viewing, too, late at night on a weekend before bed when there was nothing else to do. I was in a dreamy sleep-like state, and the whole thing was a big mix of peaceful calming. It's such a great way to push your problems to the side for a while and return to something familiar and comfortable.
I'd rather be a gear in a big, deterministic, physical machine than just some random swerving.

There were people in the theater when I went, but I went there alone.
It really wasn't until I watched it after buying the DVD though that the full effect of the movie really hit...that viewing was alone too, as were the 10 or so after that in the week that followed.
I've watched it a couple times with other people, but I find it hard to immerse myself as much as when I'm alone - as if someone is intruding on a very personal conversation.

I was unemployed at the time I saw it (now I'm a student again).
Everyone had already slipped of to bed so I had the livingroom to myself and I decided to watch the film. So it was pretty late at night, ow and i had a glass of wine along with it! It was a great experience! And yes it's such a personal film! Some people don't get this film. Some people I know said the movie isn't about anything. They couldn't be more wrong! It's about so many things! It's just hard to explain, you get a certain feeling while watching the movie and you can relate.
The first time was great

The first time I watched I was alone and it was at night (something like 9-11, on C4). For me, that was 'best time' I've watched it, because I was alone and able to full appreciate how great a film it was! Oh, and watching it at night helps with the atmosphere! It's never the same watching it with other people, or during the day, so I don't make a habit of that.
