Japanese DVD and Soundtrack
My girlfriend gave me both of these for my birthday yesterday. I know it's been brought up in other threads how vastly superior they are as compared to the US versions, but I don't recall seeing any images or details.
I haven't had a whole lot of time to go through them yet but here's a quick run down:
The dvd comes with an insert with the chapter titles and such, but the best thing about it is a "location map" that shows where certain major scenes happened on a small map of Tokyo (from Shinjuku to Shibuya basically). Fantastic.
On the dvd itself, the special features include everything on the US version (the trailers are swapped for the japanese counterparts), as well as four short interviews with Scarlett, Giovanni, Sofia, and Ross Katz.
The CD comes with two inserts, the first being a 13 page book of pictures, some from the movie, others of scenes in the movie at different angles, and others not in the film. The other insert is mostly in Japanese but it includes the lyrics to Too Young and Just Like Honey in English.
Also in the CD case is a small card that resembles a hotel room key card with a URL on the back that leads you to a small site that is mostly out of date. It had links to a calendar and posters you could buy (must be out of stock because there is no way to get more info), as well as some wallpapers and the dead links to the City Girl video.
I'll post some more stuff from it as I get access to a scanner or camera, but I'm just amazed at how much better it is...and not just an improvement over the terrible US DVD cover.
Here is the title menu from the DVD itself; faint clouds move across the screen (you can see some in the lower left corner) and Girls is playing the background:

Note that if you get the DVD it is a Region 2 DVD and will not play in most US DVD players.

It does. Just Like Honey is normal length, and then 50 Floors Up (the bonus track at the end) is 12 minutes long. About 3-4 minutes of song, 7 minutes of silence, and then "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Bob Harris"Tombo wrote:I'm just wondering if the import cd has the 'hidden' Bill Murray karaoke track right at the very end,a la our western version...it should be delivered into my sweaty mitts in the next coupla days,so I'll let y'all know!
Tom xx
I've been dying to get the Japanese DVD for so long, I love the menu, and I love the white cover, could you tell me if the white cover is a card slipcase or just a normal case with white cover? I currently have the Hong Kong version which has a green slipcover but the white one looks so much nicer
She's got the moves to rule the world...
Only if you buy TWO copies of the Japanese versions to keep one set in permanently in cellophane for your LiT shrine. You would also need one of those Monseuil Owls and a framed LiT poster signed by both Bill and Scarlett.Tombo wrote:Uh-oh...does this mean I'm turning into a LIT memorabilia geek?

Um...I'm almost afraid to actually admit this...I got a poster of the film signed by Bill,Scarlett,Sofia,Giovanni Ribisi and Anna Faris from ebay...Pockets wrote:Only if you buy TWO copies of the Japanese versions to keep one set in permanently in cellophane for your LiT shrine. More money than sense,as my Dad used to say...
The funny thing is,I don't plan on actually putting the poster up...I mean, people might think I'm obsessed or something...
