Bill Murray - Charlie Rose interview (Feb, 2014)
Here's a recent Charlie Rose interview with Bill Murray. While the timing of the interview coincides with promotion of the film The Monuments Men , the conversation here explores a wide swath of Bill's work. It's a terrific interview, I think--common for Charlie Rose. Plus, there's a section in the ...

Rail Truck (Torocco)
I just saw this beautiful film at the Japan Cuts festival in NYC, and I'd highly recommend it to lovers of LiT...or any fans of Yasujiro Ozu or Hou Hsiao-Hsien. Check out the trailer:

I didn't mind the long takes; I think they worked on me and got me to adjust myself to the film's language and pacing. I don't think I'd have remembered the film as much--or would want to see it again now--if those very long takes were shorter. I felt as if I were being invited to let my mind wander...

I agree, I think, with preciouswhile. LiT only really moved me on the second and third viewings--which were by myself at home. I'm going to give Somewhere another viewing--I saw it in NYC about two weeks ago. There are so many similarities to LiT--in shots, themes, moods, etc.--that it sometimes fee...

Japanese music
For the past couple of years, I've been listening to Japanese artist Shiina Ringo and the band in which she sings, Tokyo Jihen. There's a great forum for their music and related topics here: http://forums.electricmole.net/index.php I'll occasionally listen to Pizzicato 5 albums or the odd 80s track ...

Hey there! Glad to hear you decided to join the group; I had what sounds like a very similar experience a few years ago. I think there's a thread on the boards here about the "kick in the stomach" feeling that this film has delivered to many of us--that combination of love, longing, wanting to be th...

Hmm. While I think the dream interpretation theory is interesting, couldn't it also be possible that Bob did some publicity shots for the sake of Suntory back in the States and had those images sent over for use in Tokyo in advance of his arrival there? That's what I'd always assumed is going on. Th...

Quick thing about Bob's experience with the too-low shower head that I don't think I've seen anyone mention in this forum. I believe--though am not one hundred percent certain--that there is at least a type of shower common in Japan in which the bather is intended to sit down on a little stool in th...

Cryogenic, we can even add another to that great list of contrasts you started: Those who photograph (John explicitly--his photography work drawing him away from his wife--and Charlotte herself, at least previously--"you know...horses, dumb pictures of your feet") and those who are photographed (Bob...

I'm keeping this short for now as it's 3:00 AM here (yes, I am awake)... In short, we are beginning to learn that this film is about individuals and multi-tiered feelings, not merely concepts or moments with no sense of personality behind them. Yes, I largely agree. Yet, Bob and Charlotte both exper...
