Park Hyatt Tokyo - Renovation
Hello again!
I subscribe to a Monocle magazine and in my most recent issue there is an article about the Park Hyatt Tokyo including some history and stories and how it was closed this year for a major renovation job, reopening again late 2025. Included in the article are some fantastic photos. Due to the relatively low size limitations on photo/file attachments, i'm only able to attach here the first page of the article.

Wow did not know about that! Good thing I didn't plan for a trip there during this time. Also didn't know about this magazine. Will have to check it out.redleader74 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 4:31 pmI subscribe to a Monocle magazine and in my most recent issue there is an article about the Park Hyatt Tokyo including some history and stories and how it was closed this year for a major renovation job, reopening again late 2025. Also I don't know why I didn't get a notice about the post, I'm subscribed.
But anyway thanks for trying to upload. I went into the board settings and changed the file size max to 5mb. If you are able to scan it again and maybe more see if that works!

Yes, Monocle is a fantastic magazine on world culture, arts, travel, etc. Great articles with just as great photos. However, it is kind of expensive at ~$12 USD per issue (probably more now). I'd love to share all the pages from that article at a legible resolution, but I know this site has size limitations. Is there another way to do it, like linking from other photo site or something like that?Bob_san wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 2:13 amWow did not know about that! Ok if 5mb is not enough then you can link from an external site and embed or just a link to the external site, thanks!redleader74 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:00 pmI'd love to share all the pages from that article at a legible resolution, but I know this site has size limitations. Ok, I've scanned the entire article. Its actually more photos than it is text. I use Flickr for my photos, so here's a private link to the album:
https://www.flickr.com/gp/redleader/0xTb66eneq
Please let me know if it doesn't work. The magazine uses very high quality glossy paper, however, my scanner is pretty old so the images don't truly capture the stunning beauty of both the images and the quality of the printed pages. Enjoy!
P.S. By the way, on the home page of my Flickr account, you'll notice that the photo banner at the top is, of course, of the New York Bar at the Park Hyatt. This was during my first visit to Japan in 2016 and my first and only ever stay at the hotel. Of our four night stay, three were spent in that bar, indulging in all that it had to offer. This was in early december. By our third and final night in the bar, a Christmas tree had gone up next to the band. Everytime I think of this I am reminded of the scene where a new band takes over in the bar, more or less signfying it was time for Bob to go home.

(I don't know why I didn't get a notification or I would've read it sooner. I came back for the other reply you left on travel to Japan.)
I asked my wife to get me that back issue for my birthday or the holidays.
Yes, once the Christmas tree goes up it's time to go home!

Oh, you will love it. The publication itself is very high quality, thick glossy pages, worthy of framing! Unfortunately, annual subscription is very expensive even though they do have many articles on Japan.Bob_san wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 7:46 pmOk great thanks a lot! Wow, thanks! I always thought you need active subscription to the magazine to access the digital content. I'm going to save those photos now!jeffyen wrote: ↑Thu Dec 04, 2025 9:15 amAlternatively it's also available here. https://monocle.com/travel/in-high-regard/

A Monocle writer posted a brief update about the renovations here on Jan 18!

Sounds good!

Ok so there's more on the Monocle front! That author, Tyler Brule (apparently the founder, general manager, writer etc), wrote another article about places he went with his mom:
https://monocle.com/the-faster-lane/a-c ... r-for-mom/
and mentions (the room number he stays at in the TPH) he's going to be talking about his trip including the TPH on their podcast ("radio show")
called Monocle on Sunday (apparently they have an entire media arm with other podcasts). I found the episode on my podcast player (but you can find it anywhere) here:
https://pocketcasts.com/podcast/monocle ... 27a0c4bb9a
I haven't listened to the whole thing yet but will!
By the way I am guessing from his accent that Tyler is Canadian. From the new podcasts I initially thought it was just a British operation like the BBC but not all of them.
The website does say edited in London. Omg I'm not going down a rabbit hole...!

ha ha, I know all about the proverbial rabbit holes! Just this LiT site alone....reading all the old posts, fan fiction, personal stories, etc., could keep me occupied for hours
