Black finger, not black toe

I work in a warehouse. We sell hardware and accessories to cabinet makers and kitchen renovators. Tuesday I was attempting to roll a 55 gallon barrel of glue off a pallet. I have done this enough times to do it in my sleep (which is probably why this happened). I thought the barrel was stuck, so I gave it a good tug. The barrel was NOT stuck and it came off the pallet so quickly it crushed my right ring finger against the wall. Luckily, I was wearing gloves. After walking back and forth a few times cursing my stupidity, I went back to work. Other than a little blood seeping out from beneath the nail, the finger looked normal. This was around 8:30AM.
By 1:00PM, the top part of the finger was purplish black. Our manager looked at it, said, "It's broken," and sent me to the clinic. The doctor looked at it, said, "It's broken," and sent me in for X-rays just to be sure. Today is the first day I haven't had "Black Finger." All the icing I've been giving it has worked.

Sounds painful, Congruous. How long with a split? Will you still be able to work?

It only hurt when I crunched it against the wall. The finger is dark purple, but the swelling is mostly gone and there is no pain. I wear a splint at work, but not when I'm at home.

It's been over a week. Pain gone completely? Getting used to the splint?

It hurts now because the nail is starting to come off. It also hurts like crazy when I'm washing my hair...what hair I still have.

Congruous - how's the finger feeling? Getting back to normal?
Also - I seem to remember you live in Georgia (correct me if I'm wrong); are you a Falcons fan? They looked very good last night. (Smart move getting Trotter thrown out before kickoff!)

The finger is as good as it is going to get. It is still numb at the tip and the nail looks kind of odd, but it doesn't hurt and I don't wear the splint anymore.
I live right in the middle of Atlanta. I'm not as big a pro football fan as I was when I was a kid (I prefer watching college ball), but I'm always happy when the Falcons win. The defense did a great job. I bet Andy Reid had a few choice words for Trotter. Before the season started, I was picking Philly and New England to be the top teams. If Atlanta plays with discipline, we'll have a good year. We'll see how it all plays out.
